August 3rd, Australia Day 163

I took these photos on the eighth day of my tour through the Northern Territory.

On our way to Twin Falls we had to cross a sumberged part of the road. You can just make out the dark rectangular posts which demarcate the path of the road under the water. Posted by Picasa

To get to Twin Falls, you need to take a boat part of the way and it goes through this feature I call "Twin Falls Gorge". Posted by Picasa

This is an example of the high walls which make up the gorge. Posted by Picasa

These are the walls of the gorge as you approach the landing nearest to Twin Falls. Posted by Picasa

The water of the river was quite clear and I took this photo which shows both the bottom of the river, a depth of about 4 meters, as wel as some fish. Posted by Picasa

On the boat, I managed to get this photo of Twin Falls as seen from a distance. Posted by Picasa

Although there was this sign warning of saltwater crocodiles in the area, our tour guide told us that there were none around as they could not scale the rocks we had to hike in order to reach this place. Posted by Picasa

This is Twin Falls. Although you can only see one of the falls in this photo, ther is another one right beside it. Posted by Picasa

This is another shot of the falls, which shows both of them as face-on as possible. I could go no further because to the right of me was a lake. Posted by Picasa

This darter, which looks like it might belong to the cormorant family, I saw on the boat ride back to shore. Posted by Picasa

After coming back to shore from Twin Falls, I took a picture of this cute little piglet that was running around the place. Posted by Picasa

This is the gorge on the guarding the entrance to Jim Jim Falls. Posted by Picasa

Although not flowing during the dry season, this is where Jim Jim Falls tumbles into a plunge pool. I'm told that during the wet season, this is supposed to be quite a sight. Posted by Picasa

This is what lies behind the falls. The plunge pool I was lying beside is just out of the picture at the bottom. Posted by Picasa

As we were leaving Jim Jim Falls, I took this photo of an escarpment in Kakadu National Park. It reminded me of something I saw in "Crocodile Dundee", which was filmed in the area. Posted by Picasa
